International Students
The College is located next to Sydney University in the inner Sydney suburb of Newtown (see grad ref. R13 on map). It is close to major bus and train routes.
International Students may enroll only in full-time courses offered by the College. However, this restriction does not apply in their final semester if they are repeating a previously failed unit.
The Moore College academic year for undergraduate students commences at the beginning of February and concludes at the end of November. However, postgraduate students may begin their courses at other times.
Academic Requirements
The normal entry requirement for an undergraduate course is a degree from an Australian University or its equivalent. Applicants for the postgraduate MA (Theol) require a BTh or its equivalent. Applicants for the MTh require a four year BD (Hons 2A) including a thesis/Project of around 15,000 words or a qualification of an equivalent standard.
English Language Requirements
All applicants whose first language is not English, or who have not met their academic admission requirements (see above) in English medium, are required to sit an examination administered by the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). These exams are held on a regular basis in most African and Asian countries. Details of the nearest centre may be obtained by contacting your local Australian or British Consulate. Successful postgraduate applicants must achieve a level of 7.0 in all segments of IELTS. Please see the IELTS requirements at www.ielts.org/ TOEFL equivalent scores are also accepted.
Australian Government Requirements
To be considered for entry to Australia, an overseas student must:
• be applying for full-time study;
• be academically qualified for the course they seek to undertake;
• have an adequate standard of English;
• be genuinely seeking temporary entry for study purposes only;
• be of good health.
In accordance with the ESOS Act 2000, Moore College is a registered provider on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS), Provider Code 00682B.
If admitted to Moore College and if granted entry to Australia, all overseas students are subject to the provisions of the ESOS Act 2000. These include:
They must supply the College with accurate contact details (i.e. Australian residential address, telephone number and email address) and of any change to this information.
The College is obliged to inform overseas students admitted to the College that if this information is not up to date at any time, then 'automatic student visa cancellation could occur without the knowledge of the student', and
Students should be aware that any information provided to the College may be made available to Australian Federal and State Government authorities.
Visa Requirements
When an applicant has been accepted by Moore College, they will be sent a Letter of Acceptance with details regarding the procedures for applying for a visa. The Australian government advises that the process of obtaining a student visa can take up to twelve (12) weeks.
Financial Matters
Before overseas students can apply for a visa, they must provide evidence that they have enough money to pay fees, return air fares and living costs in Australia, for the total period of their course. Students who come to Australia and cannot pay the costs or support themselves, may be required to leave Australia.
Tuition Fees
Tuition fees for higher degrees are set out under the separate Postgraduate Study programs. Unfortunately, no scholarships are available.
Tuition fees for international students are payable in arrears as each semester of the course is completed. At the time of being offered a place in the College an international student will be asked to enter into a legally binding agreement to pay fees in arrears. That agreement spells out all amounts which a student is required to pay and when those payments are due for the whole of the course in which the student is enrolled.
Accommodation Charges for 2007
Accommodation charges for John Chapman House (Single Males) are $6,700, which includes all meals.
Single Female students pay a separate amount to Mary Andrews College for accommodation and other costs.
Housing rent rates for 2007 are between $205 and $273 per week.
Living Costs
As a guide it costs between $A10,000-$A12,000 per year for a single person to live in Australia. This will cover accommodation, food, transport, clothes, health and entertainment. A married person needs around $A4,500 more per year for a spouse and $A3,000 more a year for each child. These figures do not include airfares or the course fees. Full fees will be charged for dependent children if they attend school in Australia. For further information see http://studyinaustralia.gov.au/Sia/en/Home.htm
Health Matters
The Australian Government requires membership of Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC). Membership of a health insurance scheme in the student’s home country is not an acceptable alternative. The OSHC fee must be paid before obtaining a student visa. Further details of the OSHC will be forwarded on acceptance by the College.
A medical test and X-ray examination are required before a visa application can be considered.
